Software for building websites — which one you need
Behind the query "software for building a website" there is usually one question: can I do this myself, and with what. The answer depends on the kind of tool — there are four, and they are for entirely different people.
Below: what each is meant for, whom it suits and what is wrong with it. Ours is in the list too, in its place.
1. Text editors and code
What it is: VS Code, Sublime and similar. You write HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
For whom: developers, and people learning to be one.
What is good: there are no limits at all. You make whatever you want and the site is entirely yours.
What is bad: learning takes months. And that is only the start — hosting, connecting a domain, security and updates are on you as well.
When it fits: if you want to learn programming, or already know it. Learning for the sake of one site makes no sense.
2. Content management systems
What it is: WordPress and similar. A ready engine: you install a theme, add text, plug in extensions.
For whom: someone ready for the technical side, or a small team.
What is good: a great many ready solutions. There is an extension for almost any task.
What is bad: hosting, updates, backups and security are your job. An un-updated site gets broken into, and that is a common event, not a rare one.
When it fits: if you need a large and growing site and have somebody to look after it.
3. Block builders
What it is: you drag ready blocks with a mouse and insert text and pictures.
For whom: a person without technical knowledge.
What is good: fast and clear. A result within a day.
What is bad: the boundary of the template. What the template did not foresee cannot be added. And on many platforms the site cannot be exported and moved.
When it fits: if the task is simple and typical — a landing page, a portfolio, a small corporate site.
4. Builders driven by artificial intelligence
What it is: you describe the task in words, the program assembles the site and accepts corrections in the conversation too.
For whom: a person without technical knowledge who nonetheless finds templates too tight.
What is good: no template is chosen, the structure follows the task. A correction is an ordinary sentence, not a hunt for a setting.
What is bad: the result depends on your description. "Make a beautiful site" produces a beautiful, empty one. And it is usually a paid service.
When it fits: if the task is clear, the deadline is short and you want to make changes yourself.

How to choose
Three questions are enough.
Can you code, or do you want to learn? If yes — code. If no — the other three.
Who will look after the site? Without a technical person a CMS becomes heavy: somebody has to do the updates.
Does your task fit a template? If it does, a block builder is cheaper. If it does not, an AI builder or a studio.
What is the same with any tool
Whatever the tool, a site does not appear in search by itself and does not bring clients by itself. The page needs a title, a description and text that a human reads.
And the domain must be in your name — that does not depend on the tool either.
